Asked: I need tips for concert photography please?

The venue doesn't allow SLRs so I'll be using my Canon SD780. I'd just like to get the best pictures possible with the means available to me. I'll be roughly in the middle of the venue (Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Charlotte) so probably 80-ish yards from the stage (thats just a rough estimate, I have no idea how far it is). Thanks!

Is there any chance you can go to a rehearsal? I think that even with your SD780 right in front of the musicians at rehearsal you will get better pictures than with a 1D with 200mm lens at 80 yards. Otherwise, set your ISO as high as it'll go and hope for the best.

You're not going to get it. Your viewpoint is likely to be bad for photography, the distance too great and your camera's performance in low light too poor.

Here's a weird idea, just go and enjoy it.

Enjoy the concert and forget about pictures.There is nothing I can tell you that will improve your pictures.You are far away with a camera that can't get you close enough.Take a snap shot for memory and watch the show.
